Where: Punta De Mita (about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta)

Length of Stay: 5 nights in February

Flight: United –39,000 points roundtrip, which is reasonable

Outbound: IAD>IAH>PVR

Inbound: PVR>EWR>DCA

Hotel: The W Punta de Mita Resort

Sorry I used points for this so I’m not sure how much each night costs. It was 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points for 5 nights, which is pretty reasonable.

Day 1:

  • Fly into Puerto Vallarta (PVR)

  • *Contacted The W ahead of time to arrange transportation from the airport to the hotel, which took about 45 minutes

  • The day you fly in, I would keep that free of activities. You’ll be tired and it’s best to go and sit by the pool and get a drink. I landed around 3:00 PM and was at the pool by about 5:00 PM

  • Omakase dinner by the head sushi chef. 10 (plentiful) courses and beverage pairing for ~$100 (which is amazing).

  • This is not something listed on their menu so if you are a foodie like me, make sure to get hooked into the Concierge and they will help you plan all activities including getting you linked up with the food and beverage director who can help plan all of your eating activities! *If you actually go to this resort, reach back out to me and I’m happy to provide exact names of people you should reach out to.

Day 2:

  • Tour of the Marietas Islands - tour a hidden beach that you jump off of the boat to get to and swim through a cave. You then get to go snorkeling and whale watching

  • Proceed to Muelle Turistico in Marina la Cruz to get to the starting point

  • * Set this up with the concierge in advance. Be flexible about timing as much is dependent on the tide schedule. The entire tour is about 3.5-4 hours

  • Cost ~$136 per person

  • Away Spa – on Day 2 I did one of their body wraps, which left my skin feeling glowy, refreshed, and soft. Their spa is very pretty with nice dipping pools outside that are tucked in a jungle-like escape. For the ladies, you can also add on a hair treatment that leaves your hair feeling AMAZINGLY soft. Would highly recommend.

  • Mesa1- I won’t go into too much detail about how AMAZING this dinner was because it would just bore everyone. However, this experience is a private dining experience that sits in this middle of a private lake. The entire time I had 2 servers and 2 chefs attending to me. The cost is definitely pricey but worth it if you want an experience to remember and you love food and wine like me.

  • *If you make a reservation online, you may get a notification that it gets canceled. Just to be on the safe side, email the concierge if you are looking to make a reservation and the food and beverage team will take care of your needs from there.

Day 3:

  • ATV Tour of the Jungle @ Rancho Mi Chaparrita

  • This tour was probably my favorite. The ATVs were safe and secure and our tour guide was BOMB. He was extremely nice, knowledgeable and accommodates everyone on the trip (I was with 3 other older couples lol). The tour went through Sayulita,***which is an adorable town and if you have time you need to take the time to go back after the tour and explore more.

  • Cost ~$85

  • We went through the jungle and saw lots of wild life and amazing views. Would highly recommend – super fun and they have a free tequila tasting after, which is included!

  • If you have desires to do horse back riding, zip lining, scuba diving ect. They have many other tours that you can take through this ranch property.

  • You should set this tour up through the concierge as well

  • Tour is about 2 hours long

Day 4-5:

90 minute massage at the Away Spa – another great experience and well worth the extra money to do a longer massage

Took time to walk the beach and found some secluded areas, which was nice to have a private beach!

Hung by the many pools that they have and ate mucho ceviche (if you eat at the cevycheria, you must ask Ricardo or the chef what they would eat. They will not steer you wron

g. The sauces on the different ceviches are out of this world!

Night 5 (Saturdays) they have a beach party of sorts where you can eat on the beach at sunset, watch fire dancers, and have you food freshly cooked on the grill next to you. Super fun!

If you go to The W, you must get the Piwiwi drink at the pool. It is very similar to a paloma with Tajin on the outside of the rim and its amazing.

Other Notes:

Tipping: I brought ~$100 cash to tip people if I needed to tip with cash (transportation, tour guides, bag boys, housekeeping etc.) that seemed to be plenty for 1 person. That does not include what I tipped on my credit card.

Transportation: set up all transportation through the hotel. They have nice, safe vehicles to take you where you need to go that are always waiting at the hotel. Each way (to get just about anywhere) is about $30 USD. That’s because if you are going somewhere for 3 hours or less, they will wait for you and take you back. Otherwise you can set up transportation through the tour company, which I found to be safe as well.

Safety: I wasn’t sure about safety before arriving but was pleasantly surprised at what a tight knit community of genuinely nice people this was. Safety was never a concern but it’s always good to stay alertJ

General: If you’re looking to go to Mexico, I would highly recommend. I have been to Cabo, which is also great but personally, I enjoyed Punta de Mita more because of the amazing tours and food on property at this resort. Also the town of Sayulita is worth is in its own right. If you are looking for cheap flights I would recommend signing up for the free emails from Scott’s Cheap Flights. His algorithm scans daily for cheap flights and I see Puerto Vallarta come up on there a lot.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
